The Beatles

Beatles Anthology Collage

1960 : Paul McCartney and John Lennon perform as “The Nerk Twins” at the Fox and Hounds pub in Reading, England. The pub is owned by McCartney’s cousin and her husband. The duo play another set the next day. http://calendar.songfacts.com/events/April/23/

The Durkans

Kevin and Kerri Durkan with Daughters Violet and Jasmine in 2011 when they Purchased the Fox and Hounds Pub

In 2011, the Fox and Hounds Pub was purchased by Kevin and Kerri Durkan who were already owners of local popular microbrewery Two Bridges Brewery. The new landlords intended on turning the pool room into a shrine to honor the “Beatles” with memorabilia. They were given several donated pieces by The Cavern Club and the Beatles Society.

They also had hopes to receive a few transcriptions of McCartneys very own lyrics from the Beatles Anthology that had made references to the very pub they performed in. Although, we cannot speculate if that actually transpired. The Beatles Anthology has a writing by Sir Paul McCartney that reads “That spring of 1960, John and I went down to a pub in Reading, The Fox And Hounds, run by my cousin Betty Robbins and her husband,” resource; http://www.getreading.co.uk/lifestyle/food-drink/ginger-beerd-reading-festival-ale-5776305

Recently, Kevin and Kerri celebrated when they found out that they had been placed in the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) Good Beer Guide. The Pub was listed among 4,500 0f the 50,000 pubs in Britain to make the 2014 guide.

Amazingly in 1970 – Fleetwood Mac lost founding member Peter Green when he announced he needed to leave the group to devote himself to “What God would have me do.” After a few member changes, Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks join the band for their most successful lineup in 1974. ImageL

As we take a closer look at the music that is all around us, we thought it would be very cool to get a closer connection with all the fabulous women that support our local musicians and feed the music industry! The moms, wives, girlfriends, rockers and even the besties! The fact is, is that there is a strong influence by today’s women in the music industry. And more and more women are starting bands, producing music, engineering and hold a strong suit when it comes to rocking out.

There are many legends in the day that we could name including Joan Jett, Janis Joplin, Pat Benatar, Joni Mitchell… the list goes on and on. But we know about all of them… We want to know more about you!

We want to see pictures of “Women Representing Rock” for our Pinterest Board! Whether your performing or supporting, Share it on our Facebook Page! We appreciate your support and want to show you off for a change!

1985 : It’s no joke: David Lee Roth officially leaves Van Halen to start a solo career.

http://calendar.songfacts.com/events/April/1/”

Did you know this! Crazy! And on April Fools Day! David Lee Roth started his solo career and left Van Halen on April 1st, 1985 only to rejoin the group in 2006.

Roth released Crazy from the Heat, a popular solo EP of off-beat standards. Singles for “California Girls” and “Just a Gigolo/I Ain’t Got Nobody” succeeded largely due to their innovative music videos (produced by Jerry Kramer and co-produced by Glenn Goodwin and Bobby Diebold), which featured ridiculous characters created by Roth and his Creative Chief Director, Pete Angelus, who’d previously directed Van Halen’s Roth-era videos. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Lee_Roth
